How Ledger Live Authentication Works

Hardware-Level Security

Your private keys are generated and stored in a Secure Element chip (CC EAL5+), the same technology used in passports and credit cards. These keys never leave your hardware wallet, ensuring maximum security even if your computer is compromised by malware.

PIN & Passphrase Protection

Access your wallet with a 4-8 digit PIN entered directly on the device. Optional passphrase support adds an extra layer of security, creating hidden wallets. After 3 incorrect PIN attempts, the device automatically wipes itself.

Transaction Verification

Every transaction must be manually confirmed on your Ledger device screen. This prevents unauthorized transactions even if your computer is infected with malicious software trying to modify transaction details.
